VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN-WAR-PEACE-FEMINISM:
MAKE THE LINK!
V-DAY (founded
by the activist and author of "The Vagina Monologues",
Eve Ensler)
"Imagine
a world without violence
and make it come true.
V-Day is a vision of human life where girls and women live free,
safe, equal and with dignity.
V-Day is a spirit affirming that life should be lived, creating
and thriving, rather than surviving victimization and recovering
from atrocities.
V-Day is a determination to end violence against women. We will
not stop.
V-Day is a radical idea, a catalytic force, a deeper imagining,
an invitation. It is both the vision of the place and the energy
necessary to transport us to the place where women are free and
safe. For four years, V-Day has been growing and gathering women
from all over the world. There are V-productions in over 31 countries.
We have connected with the communities or raped and murdered women
from Juarez, Mexico, sex-trafficked women from Paris, Bulgaria and
Manila, women who have been date-raped on college campuses all over
North America, women honor-killed in Jordan, battered women in the
corporate world, genitally-mutilated women in Kenya, the women slowly
being made extinct through gender genocide in Afghanistan. Women
are responding and joining together in a global community, a global
energy that is changing it."

ANFD/NAWL
(National Association of Women and the Law)
FromThe Womens Declaration Against War and Racism For Peace
and Justice, posted on behalf of Nancy Peckford:
"Women are usually the first victims of fundamentalism, war
and injustice, and we are also very often the first to develop alternatives
to violence. This is why true peace making must include women and
their representative organizations in the process of finding solutions
to international terrorism and war. It must also seek to remedy
the cause of so many conflicts: poverty, injustice, sexual and racial
inequality, ethnic and religious discrimination and the violation
of the collective rights of peoples".

Women
4 Women Afghanistan
"Women for Women Afghanistan is a Canadian volunteer
solidarity group committed to raising awareness to the plight of
women in Afghanistan. During two decades of war, Afghan women have
endured extreme oppression, through the denial of their basic human
rights. More recently, under the imposed rule of the extremist Islamic
Taliban regime, most women and children face severe restrictions
to their freedom of movement and are denied access to basic health
care, education, security and employment. The overall goals of our
projects are 1) to support the empowerment efforts of women in Afghanistan
and the refugee camps in Pakistan, and 2) to raise awareness in
Canada of the human rights violations".

Canadian
Association of Sexual Assault Centres
"We are a Pan Canadian group of sexual assault
centres who have come together to implement the legal, social and
attitudinal changes necessary to prevent, and ultimately eradicate,
rape and sexual assault. As feminists we recognize that violence
against women is one of the strongest indicators of prevailing societal
attitudes towards women. The intent of the Canadian Association
is to act as a force for social change regarding violence against
women at the individual, the institutional and the political level.
Together we will provide a mechanism for communication, education
and mobilization to alleviate the political and geographical isolation
of centres in Canada. We will also support and encourage efforts
to create a society in which all members of that society have the
rights of social, economic and political equality."
